OCT Imaging

During your exam, the doctor may determine that additional testing is needed. One test performed in our office is an OCT. Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) is a technology that provides a three-dimensional image of biological structures with a resolution of 10 micro-meters. This is particularly helpful in management and treatment of diseases that affect the eye such as glaucoma, diabetes, retinal detachments and macular degeneration. With such high resolution, all eleven layers of the retina are visible and are compared to a standardized database to measure thickness and monitor for changes over time. Any changes over time can indicate disease progression.
